Writing Towards the Mystery: an evening of shared work
WCDR members are invited to join poet Jessica Moore for an evening of readings and exploration.
Jessica will read from her book, The Whole Singing Ocean. WCDR members are also welcome to share excerpts from their poetry or prose, relating to the theme of “writing towards the mystery.” Here’s what Jessica has to say about the theme: “In my work, writing towards the mystery – or towards awe – shows up in the risk, the release, in the meeting of the Other or the unknown.”
Do you have a poem or chapter to share that touches on this experience? Perhaps your character is taking a risk or entering a space they know little about. Perhaps you were moved to create a poem about something you couldn’t quite grasp until you wrote your way into it. Whatever “writing towards the mystery” means to you, we want to hear your work. We welcome readings up to 3-5 minutes in length, including any set up or preamble you feel is needed.
If you are interested in being a reader, please email erin@erinthomas.ca by May 23, 2025. Include a brief description of your reading or the reading itself. Erin and Jessica will include as many readers as possible in the evening, but if choices need to be made, they will be made on the basis of fit for the theme. Whether selected or not, all reader applicants will be invited to a Zoom meeting (date tbd) where we will share tips for reading work aloud online. Recordings of this meeting will be available as a member benefit.
Date: June 3
Time: 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
Location: Virtual – Zoom. Link will be provided
This is a members-only opportunity. Non-members are welcome to attend, but only members are invited to read.
