Robert Rotenberg always wanted to be a novelist, inspired by a family of readers and storytellers. After studying English literature at university, he took a detour through law school and worked as a magazine editor, film executive, and CBC Radio producer. He opened a criminal law practice, focusing on criminal cases, while writing his first novel. His second novel, “Old City Hall,” took a decade to complete and became a Canadian bestseller in 2009. Since then, he has published five more novels, with his latest, “Downfall,” released in February 2021.
Robert is also a screenwriter, co-writing two Murdoch Mysteries episodes and a TV series proposal. He continues to work on TV, film projects, and his next novel. He teaches at the Humber Writer’s Correspondence Course and mentors private students. Balancing his writing career and full-time criminal law practice, Robert believes each profession enhances the other. He feels fortunate for the support from his publisher, Simon & Schuster, his law partners, family, friends, and readers worldwide.
